What is Tai Chi Chuan?

Back to Information For Seniors

Tai Chi Chuan is a gentle form of exercise that has been practiced in China for nearly 900 years.

Since its’ introduction into the west in the 1970’s, Tai Chi Chuan has become extremely popular as a method to maintain fitness, reduce stress and improve joint mobility and balance.

As the motions are smooth and continuous, there are no “jarring” motions. This training can be done by people facing challenges with their joints that are common to the aging process. The postures are easily modified to suit anyone’s level of fitness, making it an ideal form of training for seniors.

Noted benefits include improvement in circulation and respiration, both critical to senior’s health.

30 years ago, virtually no-one in the west had heard of Tai Chi Chuan. Now almost everyone knows someone who either has done Tai Chi Chuan, or is currently studying it.

Our Academy’s programs in the metropolitan Detroit area have been growing in popularity since our Academy was founded in 1987 in Royal Oak.

In addition to classes for seniors we also run programs through local area hospitals for those with specialized health concerns.

Tai Chi Chuan is definitely an excellent tonic for both stress management and health.
